The private room was incredibly clean, and I really appreciated the effort the cleaners put into keeping the hostel that way. We had booked a private double bedroom, but were given two single beds instead. We slept so well on them that we didn't want to risk changing rooms. The room itself was FREEZING, though, so bring plenty of warm jumpers to sleep in. There was one separate private bathroom with a shower and toilet, and I managed to use it every day. Timezone also offers discounted tours, evening bbqs to help guests meet each other, and forgotten essentials like razors, shaving gel, and dry shampoo. It's very central to Hollywood and easy to get around from. For a hostel, its standards really impressed me, and the private room was a plus. I'd been concerned because the reviews were so mixed.

The hostel was really busy, but the manager was sweet and went out of the way to fit me in. Sonia at the desk was lovely too. That kind of attitude makes a difference. Julia was a breath of fresh air, with a smart, lively attitude. She coordinated events for guests and looked after the cafe/restaurant in the morning. It was a pleasure meeting her, and I'd happily stay again because of the people there.

The staff were wonderful and made everyone feel welcome and included. Jeremy (I think was his name) was especially sweet and helpful. They even made it possible to get some sleep at night if you weren't partying. There were free BBQs and drinks some nights, and it was a fun place to hang out with people from all over the world. I'd stay here every time I visit LA and recommend The time zone to everyone.

The rooms had enough space for my things, and I liked the massage chair on the second floor. The interior is nice and the people were friendly. A convenience store and Walgreen are three blocks away, and the walk to Hollywood/highland subway station takes about 15 minutes. Soundproofing is basically nonexistent, so I could hear people coming in, walking, and talking in the hallway. The water pressure kept changing while I was showering.

The management handled its bed bug problem irresponsibly, in my opinion. I got bitten after my first night, yet they kept putting other visitors in that same bed. I had to insist before they gave me a private room, which is the only reason I'm giving two stars. The windows don't open, and the shared bathroom wasn't very clean. Avoid the upstairs cubicles unless you want to feel like you're staying in a homeless shelter. I wouldn't recommend this place. To me, it seems like a case for the CDC.
