Motel 6 Santa Nella, CA - Los Banos

The rooms are clean, well maintained, and clearly cared for, with real pride in ownership. It costs a little more than most motel 6 places, but I don’t mind paying extra for that quality. Better than most motel 6.

After the key showed green but still wouldn’t open the door, I went back to the front desk. The man was helpful at first, but when we returned to the room he had to kick the door open. I still couldn’t get in on my third try, and passed a shady person coming from that direction. When I returned, the front desk guy was agitated, said I was threatening him, and twirled his cane. He gave me a key for the next room, but I never got to use it. At my car, he completely lost the plot. When I came back to the office to exchange keys, he called the sheriff and threatened me with the cane. I asked for the manager; he first said he’d get them, then said he was the manager, all while waving the cane as I tried to talk. I briefly spoke with the deputy who responded, and they clearly had more important things to do. I don’t know what was going on there. Definitely look out.

For a night or two, this place is hard to beat. It was far enough from the freeway that I heard no noise at night, and the room was cheap and clean. I didn’t see any bugs or vermin. The bed was comfortable enough, though I brought my own pillow, so I can’t speak to theirs. I slept well, check-in took about two minutes, and I felt completely safe. If I were staying three or four nights, I’d probably look at the nicer places in Los Baños, but for one or two nights, it’s the perfect motel.
