The Inn at Mattei's Tavern, Auberge Collection

We were already planning a return this summer for my girlfriend's birthday, and I'm considering bringing my company retreat here too. We left our dog at home this time, but she'll come along next visit. Mattei's is such an awesome spot, and within hours we were sad to think about leaving. We came in with low expectations after a lackluster stay at Susurros (Punta Mita) a few months earlier. We'd visited the area before and stayed in Buellton, which was a perfectly fine trip, and this was meant to be a low-key Valentine's Day weekend somewhere familiar. The staff made the difference. Christina contacted us well ahead of time to arrange tastings, offered to have flowers and wine in the room, and greeted us warmly at check-in, even giving us a hug. Throughout the stay she checked in by text or room call, asked about dinner, and arranged rides. On our last night, we spent hours in the farmhouse with Andrew, Christina, Hannah, and Angel. Staff became friends, then family, and I even showed them the engagement ring I'd bought my girlfriend that she hasn't seen yet. Auberge, give them raises. At first we weren't sure about a hotel right in town, but it was great being able to park for the weekend and walk to dinners, tastings, shopping, and pretty much anywhere we'd need to go. We loved the little moments here, especially roasting marshmallows under the stars by the firepit. The stunning pool and spa were a treat too, and the outdoor lavender bath was incredibly relaxing. The whole place feels calm, refined, and comforting, with a lovely barn-style look. Mattei’s Tavern is intimate and luxurious, with thoughtful details everywhere. Our room was beautiful and spotless, service was impeccable, and the staff were the warmest and most attentive we've ever met. The restaurant was wonderful, and the breakfast was one of the best we've had anywhere. The burger and Old Fashioned at the bar were to die for. One of the best hotel stays I've ever had. The Auberge group never disappoints, and we'll absolutely be back again and again.

What stood out was their attention to every detail, from timing to little adjustments, all handled smoothly and graciously. As a mom traveling with my daughter, that kind of thoughtfulness matters. They turned a nice trip into something special and memorable for both of us, making everything feel intentional and elevated without being forced. They're the kind of professionals who create an experience, not just do the job. Five stars doesn't feel like enough. We left grateful and already looking forward to coming back. Our eight-person team had a wonderful company retreat at Mattaei’s. The event staff, including Elizabeth, Mary, and others, were very accommodating, as was the front desk team. They helped with recommendations for restaurants, excursions, and regional gifts for staff baskets. The property is gorgeous and well located, less than a 15-minute drive from both Santa Ynez and Solvang. Rooms were clean and comfortable. A fun extra was the luxury vehicles offered for hotel guests to use for free when available. Everyone on our team enjoyed the stay.
