Derby City Gaming & Hotel - A Churchill Downs Property

The staff at Derby City made us feel welcome right away, and our check-in was smooth. We got a gorgeous, clean trackside room, dropped off our things, then went down for the casino and dinner at Olivier’s. The restaurant was incredible, the food was amazing, and the service was 10/10. They celebrated my birthday without us even asking, which made a bad day so much better. We’d called at the last minute hoping for a room after a horrible experience at Caesars nearby. We’d only stayed here once before, but when the front desk manager heard what had happened, they immediately offered us a complimentary king room. She saved the special weekend we’d been trying to have. The hotel and casino were spotless, smelled amazing, and were beautifully arranged. There were lots of different kinds of games, so something for everyone, and the bars were clean and efficient. The whole atmosphere was great. Even though we’re not regulars, we were treated like we mattered. We’ll be back because of how the people treated us, as much as because of how nice the place is. Thank you!

Oliver’s Steakhouse was delicious, and the service was top-notch. Most things were great, though I wish breakfast started earlier. We were there for a trade show and had to leave so early that we never got a chance to eat there. I’d highly recommend the steakhouse.

It’s a very nice casino, which makes it a shame that people are allowed to play the machines and wreck them. With all the cameras and security, you’d think the button and screen slapping would be discouraged. My wife and I left after finding broken buttons on two machines we tried. We’ll think twice before coming back, or maybe drive a little farther.

The machines have been paying out, and they’ve added a lot of new ones lately. I had a great experience, but I wish the casino were fully non-smoking like other casinos. People should take their ashtrays and beer bottles when they leave. Nobody should have to clean a machine before playing; it’s just basic courtesy to other players.
