The Reserve on Main

The lobby and the rest of the hotel are full of fascinating modern art, and dinner at Proof on Main was outstanding. Right on Whiskey Row, it’s a convenient place to stay for bourbon or other downtown plans. A visit here made staying away from home enjoyable again. Treat yourself to a special stay in Louisville.

The art museum was a lovely way to spend some downtime, and the hotel itself was beautiful and very clean. But the practical service kept falling short. I called ahead about a special request and had to call twice before anyone followed up, with a rather casual “oh yeah” response. Getting coffee was also a struggle: I asked three times and reminded the desk before lunch, but it still took another two hours after I got back. My do not disturb sign wasn’t even on the door. Little things like this kept happening throughout the stay. Cool place, but please put more effort into developing the staff. Thank you.

The art throughout the hotel, even in my room, gave the stay a distinctive and inspiring feel. I also made good use of the 24-hour gym, sauna, and steam room, and liked having the choice of breakfast in the restaurant or through room service. My room was spotless and modern, with an incredible view of David and the river. I’d accidentally booked a Luxury Double at first, but the front desk quickly and graciously changed it to a Luxury King. They even offered a complimentary cocktail while the new room was being prepared. The service and amenities made for a fantastic stay, and I’d like to return. A couple of small things could be better: I found the pillows too fluffy and wished they had more structure, and the ice and water station was inconveniently far from my room.

Dinner and drinks at the hotel were very good, and we had a look around the art galleries before bed. We were only there for one night on the way to spend Thanksgiving elsewhere, but the whole team, from valet and front desk to bar and restaurant, was cheerful and helpful. We switched from our first room because of nearby dog noise, though both rooms were great. In the morning we walked along the river to breakfast and a nearby museum before getting back on the road. There’s more we’d like to see and do, so I think we’ll be back.
