Inn on the Square

The people were nice, and the cottage at the back worked well for keeping traffic noise down. It’s an old house, though the rooms have been updated to feel like hotel rooms. All in all, we had a very good stay.

The room was comfortable, and Persy’s Place served good food with attentive service. I also liked the inn’s rustic character, cozy feel, and location. But the stay fell short in a lot of basic ways. With just three housekeepers for 75 rooms, guests were waiting until 7 PM to check in because rooms weren’t ready. On my second day, my room wasn’t cleaned, there were no fresh towels, and I had to go to the pool area to get some. Soap and other toiletries were missing too. At 7 AM on the first morning, there was no hot water. When I asked at the desk at 8:30, they said the water heater had just been turned on and told me to wait 15 minutes. Staff at the front desk didn’t seem ready to handle all the complaints, which made things more frustrating. The place calls itself rustic and charming, but I saw black caulking in the tub, cracked light switches, dirty carpet, and no safety handles in the bathroom for guests who need them. There was only a sign warning people to be careful getting in and out. Even the restaurant served food on chipped plates. Those details aren’t acceptable in hospitality. The location and character give this hotel a lot of potential, but staffing, upkeep, and attention to detail need to improve. It’s managed by Newport Hotel Group, and there seems to be a serious lack of oversight. I’d like to see management stay here themselves and see what needs fixing.

Shops just across the street and a coffee place and bike rental nearby made the location really convenient. Persy’s Place is right next door and serves food from 7-3. We stayed for three days and loved the hotel’s charm. The pool was wonderful, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great time and would happily come back.

We’d stay here again. The rooms were clean, and everyone on staff was pleasant. Allison at the front desk gave us a useful map, directions, parking tips, and great ideas for beaches with sunsets and places to eat around Falmouth. She also took care of our requests. There’s plenty of parking, and downtown is close enough to walk to for shopping and food. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit at night, and Persy’s downstairs was great too.
