Everyone on staff was great, and the caterers were especially nice, including Kloey and the gentleman with glasses. The conference meals were just okay overall. The elote bowl was really good, but the brisket and shredded beef tacos on the first night didn't taste like much. Friday's buffet included meat, which wasn't so great during Lent. I liked the lobby and conference space, and Lubbock was a pleasant surprise on my first visit. The hotel itself could use remodeling, though. Our room smelled old, the toilet and shower were stained, and the sheets smelled like smoke for some reason, maybe an old dryer, since the hotel is non-smoking. The bed wasn't comfortable, and the walls were thin enough that I heard the next room's TV and snoring through the other wall at 3 a.m.

The breakfast waffle dispenser was broken, so Head Chef Keegan made my daughter a Texas-shaped waffle and brought it over to our table. Maddison took care of us from check-in through checkout, and the whole stay at the Overton was fantastic. We had plenty of room for our things, the bed was comfortable, and Wi-Fi worked well even on the 13th floor. Thanks for a wonderful visit.

I decided to pay extra to stay here after someone recommended it, but it wasn't worth the cost. I've stayed at two less expensive hotels nearby that include free breakfast. The room wasn't serviced after our first night, even though the in-room information said housekeeping came daily. We were out most of the day, so I called at 7 p.m. to report it, then called again at 7:30. The desk said the shift had changed and my first call hadn't been passed along properly. Towels arrived shortly after the second call. Breakfast service in the dining room was slow because of staffing. Check-in also took a while, then the key-card system went down. Security had to let us in, and we returned later for a card. They could only give us one card for two people.

We booked a top-floor room for our anniversary weekend, expecting access to the 14th-floor lounge as we usually have on past stays. Nobody told us it was closed for remodeling. We also weren't warned that the hot tub was closed for maintenance or that the lobby coffee shop was now shutting at 11 a.m. instead of 10 p.m. Having all those things unavailable left us scrambling for other food and coffee options. We've stayed at the Overton many times and usually been happy, but this two-night visit was a real letdown. We won't be back for a while.

The bed came with sheets only, no comforter or duvet, and the bedside reading lamp didn't work. There was no microwave, just a mini fridge, so leftovers stayed cold. Rust showed around the shower fixtures, and there was only one round bar of soap to share between the sink and shower. I called for more, and they brought it quickly, but it should have been there to start with. It took three calls before staff came up to ask the neighboring guests to stop playing thumping bass at 11 p.m. while we were trying to sleep. The walls are paper thin, and staff didn't seem too concerned. I remember this being the nicest hotel in town when it opened; now it isn't even the nicest on its block. Maybe the fancy lobby and wood-paneled bar are enough for some people, but I wanted a restful place to sleep and wouldn't recommend it.
