Alicia at check-in was very friendly, and getting checked in was easy. The location was perfect, and the room was roomy, well equipped, with a comfortable bed and cold A/C. We took our granddaughter to the indoor pool. It was clean and had plenty of towels, though the hot tub wasn’t working. That didn’t bother us, so I didn’t mention it to staff. I’d read the reviews and worried about what we’d find, but I’d booked so close to arrival that canceling would have cost me. The property is older and could use some updating. Our room had a strong moldy smell, the carpet by the bathroom was pulling up, the shower/tub lever was broken, and the tub was slippery with no nonslip mat. Breakfast was sufficient. Hotel prices are hard for me to accept these days, and $300 for two days felt like too much, even though it was the least expensive option I found. If I needed a place in Lufkin again, I’d probably choose somewhere else.

This Comfort Suites is easily among the top two hotels we’ve stayed at, and the indoor pool is amazing. The service was just as good. Kim, the morning attendant, kept breakfast stocked and fresh without anyone needing to ask, and cleaned spills as soon as they happened. She was fantastic throughout the morning and beyond. Employees like her are hard to find, so hold on to her.

The rooms had cracked, peeling ceilings and walls, and you could hear everything from other rooms. In the meeting room, cracks ran down both sides by the ceiling lights, which looked like they might fall at any time. Staff were rude and discourteous. I don’t see how the place could be updated as some reviewers claim, and I suspect many reviews are fake. We booked a room and meeting space for a family dinner after calling to confirm the indoor pool and jacuzzi were working. We chose this hotel for the pool, though we had another option. At check-in we were told the pool was closed because water wasn’t circulating, even though it looked like it was. The next day we heard it would open, then got told a guest had tried the maintenance room door and workers would come fix it. When family arrived from several states for dinner, we were told the pool would stay closed, with no reason given. It was obvious to me they’d shut it to avoid cleaning while fully booked. As a Hilton and Choice member, I’ll never use Choice Hotels again.

Breakfast was wonderful, with bacon, eggs, potatoes, waffles, muffins, yogurt, fruit, and fresh coffee or juice. The hotel is quiet, nicely decorated, and updated. The rooms are large, clean, comfortable, and feel homey, so you get your money’s worth. It’s also easy to get in and out for dinner, and Cavender's and Academy are across the street for a little shopping.

For a four-day business trip, it was comfortable and quiet, with everything we needed and not much reason to spend extra time at the hotel. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, and breakfast was well set up. Watch out for the water temperature, though, it’s a hazard.
