After a long day hiking, we came back to a cozy room, a hot shower, and a comfortable bed. The house is older, with creaky floors and thin walls, but it has real historic character and feels unique. The staff were welcoming and kind from the start. For our last-minute anniversary trip, they had a tray of chocolate strawberries in the room, and the homemade breakfasts both mornings were so delicious. Someone also gave us advice on hiking trails that helped us plan the day. When we returned after dinner on our last night, pumpkin cookies were waiting, along with s’mores kits for the fire. We used the clean, easy-to-use hot tub, then had s’mores by the fire, just what we wanted to do for our anniversary. Such a romantic, cozy stay. We hope to come back and would recommend this cute, historic place.

When we arrived Friday night, Gregory showed us around and shared the history of the property. The Hawksbill Room was spotless and nicely decorated, as was the rest of the house. Breakfast was delicious, and there were sweet treats in our room in case we got hungry. About a week before our stay, I called because I couldn’t find my reservation. The owner of Mayneview picked up, helped me locate the details, and asked about dietary restrictions so he could have food ready for us in the morning. I’ve worked in hospitality and know how unusual that kind of attention is. Everyone we dealt with, from Gregory and the owner to the other guests, made the place feel incredible. We were in Luray for a family friend’s wedding and had our first stay at Mayneview B&B. It won’t be our last.

The location is great, with incredible views, easy access to the National Park, a cute old house, and plenty of parking. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, especially if you have back issues. The room doors fit poorly, with visible gaps, and there’s no soundproofing at all. We could hear other guests’ private conversations and activities from the hallway. Some foam weather stripping could easily help. What ruined the stay for us was the breakfast, which the property takes pride in. My Girlfriend has dietary restrictions because of a medical issue, and we told the staff well in advance, as requested. At first, we appreciated their effort to accommodate her. But the way they handled it was awful. They announced her need for a different breakfast in front of everyone, which embarrassed her, then served her last. That made it worse, especially when they brought her lukewarm tomato soup at 9 AM. With so many other breakfast options available, that felt extremely insulting. We both felt unwelcome, other guests looked uncomfortable, and my girlfriend almost cried. We’ll never stay here again. The owners should be extremely embarrassed by their staff’s conduct.

We stayed in late May and had a great time. The owner and Innkeeper Gregory were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, and the setting was quiet and peaceful. It’s a great base for visiting Shenandoah and the town of Luray. Breakfast was delicious and added good value for the price.

The views were breathtaking, and the house was spotless, charming, and full of history. Gregory was a wonderful host and cooked excellent breakfasts on both mornings. I highly recommend Mayneview B&B, a true gem.
