The biggest letdown was how little we heard from Eagle Ridge when the mountain lift incident shut down ski-in/ski-out access. We understood the seriousness, but that access was a main reason we booked, and nobody explained what to expect or whether there were other options. The icy, unshoveled steps to our unit were also especially slippery in ski boots. We were there over MLK weekend, two adults and our kids, ages 8 and 11. The unit was spacious and mostly clean, but looked worn: scuffed, chipped paint, a big carpet stain, dated track lights, and too few lamps. The old thermostats barely worked, so the room stayed uncomfortably hot, and the sleeper sofa was painfully uncomfortable. There were smaller upkeep issues too, including no spare toilet paper. The patio door was locked but not latched, and stood slightly open when we arrived. A chair seemed to be the only thing keeping it from blowing open, which didn't feel safe. For the price and what we expected from a resort, this was a disappointing stay. We wouldn't recommend it or come back.

The stay started out well, but the wifi going out changed everything. The TVs needed internet, so we couldn't use the in-room amenities we'd paid for. When we asked for help, we were told nobody would be sent and we should “deal with it.” They offered no compensation. We asked if anything could be done, and were told they wouldn't provide anything and that customers normally get “shafted” there. One person's response ruined the experience. Hospitality should mean treating people with basic respect and kindness. I won't return, and I'd tell others to find somewhere else if they want to be treated humanely.

The night-shift woman at the office was lovely and said she'd try to get us reimbursed for the problems. She also said we should have been warned about the bears, but no one had told us. We left a day early, and the morning staff dismissed our concerns, saying the bears were looking for somewhere to hibernate and were harmless. We know the property can't control bears, but a warning and lights so guests can see would have mattered. There was no lighting on the way to our room, so we used our phone flashlights. One night, four black bears were on our patio as we walked back. My fiancé and I had booked a week at Eagle Ridge in Lutsen for a mini-moon on Minnesota's north shore. The area was pretty, though it didn't feel like the right post-wedding getaway, perhaps better for a trip with friends. I had found Eagle Ridge through YouTubers I watch and expected more for the price. Our room had lots of bugs, poor shower pressure, broken heat, and didn't seem very clean. The hot tub was pleasant but only lukewarm. Calls and texts often went unanswered. We didn't get reimbursed for the issues. We knew they might not cover everything, but hoped they'd refund the night we left early. The only thing we received was a free gondola ride. I wouldn't stay or recommend it again.

The Poplar River view from our balcony was lovely, and the staff were easy to deal with. But the room's couch and pullout bed were among the most uncomfortable I've had in a hotel. Big gaps between the bars made the couch awful to sit on, and the walls were so thin we heard people passing all night. I probably wouldn't choose this particular resort at Lutsen Mountains again.

The mountain view was great, and the gondola was an easy walk away. Our room was clean and roomy, with two queen beds, a microwave, and a mini fridge. Parking was fine, and street parking is another option if you don't want to walk to the gondola. Check-in was quick, checkout was handled by text, and we used an app to unlock the door.
