The Rutledge Inn

The waffle maker was about the only good part of this hotel. When we arrived, we were given a three-room keys in a roll-out bed was brought to the room with dirty sheets and a dingy mattress. The next morning, we left with those same sheets and linens still on the bed, even though we were told clean ones had been put on. The stains from the night before were still there. My key stopped working all three times I went to the store that first evening, so I had to go back to the desk repeatedly to have it reprogrammed. On the second day, at 18, I had to go to the desk again to get it fixed and access the room. This hotel is as bad as it gets.

The staff were kind, and even looked up which restaurants were open without us asking. Breakfast had delicious dark roast coffee, and the new beds were extremely comfortable. The rooms were extremely clean too. It’s in the middle of nowhere, but made a great stop on the way to the beach. We stayed Saturday night for only $80 with tax. Well worth a stop if you’re in the area.

I felt comfortable and safe staying here as a woman on my own with medical needs and TWO service dogs. The staff were friendly and hospitable, and the owners were easy to communicate with and willing to meet our needs. It’s very pet friendly and family oriented. Room service was exceptional, and the housekeepers went above and beyond, PLEASE TIP!!! They were especially affectionate with my service dog. There’s a BBQ restaurant in the same parking lot too, and it won’t disappoint. Best ribs I’ve had in a long time!

The outside still looks nice, but inside it wasn’t clean, and I was uncomfortable enough to go buy supplies and freshen up the room myself. I stayed here years ago when it first opened, and it was beautiful, spotless, and well maintained. I came back recently for a family reunion and was really disappointed. Check the room carefully before settling in. I hope the hotel gets back to the standard it used to have.
