The Inn At Stonecliffe

We were already making plans to return to Stonecliffe before our first visit was over. This was our first stay at The Inn at Stonecliffe, and it’s easily the best hotel and resort experience we’ve had. The food was so good that we hardly wanted to go downtown. Every meal added to the trip, and the grounds were beautiful, with activities, room to relax quietly, and incredible sunsets. The staff were warm, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to deal with. Stonecliffe will be our go-to place on the island for years to come.

We’d recommend this place if you’re looking to get away from the more touristy areas of the island. The accommodations and staff were top notch, and we thought both the food and service were excellent. The Director of Rooms was especially helpful with our billing questions. He emailed us several times with the details we needed to check that everything was correct.

Stonecliffe is about a mile and a half from the boat docks, away from downtown. They provide a horse and carriage to take you and your luggage to the property and back to the boat when you leave. To get downtown again during your stay, you can rent a bike on site or pay for a horse and carriage taxi. If you’re new to Mackinac Island, that’s useful to know. It costs a bit more than some other island hotels, but I think it’s well worth it. We’ve stayed at that other Big Hotel down the street, and I’d choose Stonecliffe every time. The property has beautiful views of the lake and bridge from many areas, including some rooms. Staff were attentive, professional, friendly, and polite. There are lawn games for all ages, a pool, an on-site restaurant and bar with excellent food and cocktails, a general store, bike rentals, and close access to the Woods Golf Course, Grand Hotels back 9 course. There’s plenty more as well. I also appreciated that 100% of net profits go to charitable causes. Stonecliffe does things right and gives you an experience to remember.

The grounds are beautiful, with great views, lots to explore, and plenty of activities or places to relax. The spacious rooms have lots of amenities and feel like home, and the on-site restaurants and shops are top notch. Stonecliffe was already a lovely property, and its upgrades in recent years have taken it to another level. The staff were kind, courteous, and attentive, and took great care of us. We’re looking forward to coming back. I can’t think of a finer place to stay on Mackinac Island.
