Parkside Inn Bridgeview

The room and pool were good. The beds were comfortable, and the shower and toilet were clean. At first the woman and man running the hotel seemed friendly, and everything seemed fine. Then, after we got back from walking the bridge on Labor Day, they called our room and said we had to leave at 1:30. My mother had spoken with the woman earlier and been told a 4 p.m. checkout was okay. They said there'd been a misunderstanding, but still took the $80 and charged us for the whole thing, for just three hours. It felt unfair and like they'd lied to us on the phone. Rude, rude, rude. We won't be back next year.

A quiet, clean little motel in a great spot, right across from the Mackinaw Bridge and the park. We spent plenty of time strolling the beach, watching the water, and picnicking in the park.

The price was steep for a barely mediocre stay, over $250 for one summer night and no breakfast. On the plus side, the location right by the bridge was superb, with amazing views. The older gentleman who checked us in was friendly and helped us get ferry tickets at the front desk.

The room smelled of mold and filth. When I asked the owner about it, he shouted that a hotel on the water would have that odor. He also said my cousin had brought the bugs with her, though she spent the whole time asking for her money back and wasn't looking for another room, so I don't know what she'd gain by making that up. The owner promised a refund for our room, but never gave it. We arrived on July 13 with our family. Two children were at the front desk. A young boy wrote down $247, and when I asked what it was, a teenage girl dressed up and said it was the price with taxes. I said that was $60 more than expected and outrageous. They quickly said it was the wrong price and corrected it. My family had booked another room and found bugs. The owner became hostile with them, and I felt uncomfortable staying. I told him I was leaving too, but he screamed, “No you’re staying!” I'm a woman with a child, and I wouldn't stay somewhere alone with a hostile manager. I let him smell the room, and my cousin's husband had to step in and speak to him the way he was speaking to us. If he'd been open-minded, we would have stayed, and this review might have been higher. Instead, we'll never return. We stayed down the road, even closer to the ferry, at a hotel that was more than accommodating, with an excellent free breakfast for the same price. I've never seen anyone treated worse, and I work in retail. Don't forget you yelled at him to “get the hell off your property.”
