That Crab and Cracklin’ Bloody Mary could have been breakfast by itself. Sean’s mix had just the right balance of horseradish and smoky salt, plenty of vegetables, plus a crisp bacon stick and a lovely crab leg in the glass. I followed it with the Crab Benedict, two nicely poached eggs over housemade crab cakes. I’m pretty sure I went past my crab limit for two years in one day! My husband polished off his corned beef hash in minutes, and my dining companion got a big platter of breakfast favorites with very local maple syrup. The food at 1824 House Inn + Barn is great in general, and once a month they let people who aren’t staying at the inn come for à la carte brunch. Friday and Saturday dinners are worth booking ahead for, too. They also hold regular sports watch parties in the cozy barn, with locals and visitors who’ve become regulars. Eat here once and you’ll want to come back, and bring your friends.

The setting is lovely, and it’s an excellent spot for the mountains. My husband and I stayed overnight while skiing at Sugarbush/Mt Ellen on Thursday and Friday. The innkeepers were gracious, our roomy accommodations had everything we needed, and the bed, sheets, and pillows were all very comfortable. Breakfast was tasty as well.

We were skiing a bit and heading north to pick up our college kid for break, and this turned out to be a wonderful Vermont stop. If you like inns, the atmosphere here is just right. The rooms are quaint in the way you hope an inn’s rooms will be, and the restaurant is a must. I’d stay here again on the same route.

We stayed from 12/31-1/4, and had a lovely time. Sugarbush is a short drive away, and the inn itself was wonderful. Breakfast in the barn and dinner there one night were both absolutely delicious. The hosts were always around when we needed help. Looking forward to coming back on our next ski trip, thanks again!

The beds were so comfortable, exactly what we needed to properly relax. The house and rooms feel cozy and welcoming, and the location makes a great base for exploring central Vermont. Sean and Farrell were such gracious hosts that it felt like visiting family. We also loved the delicious food at the Barn restaurant. We’ll be back next time we’re in Vermont.
