Hotel Indigo Madison Downtown by IHG

The rooms are a nice size, the beds are comfy, and the heat works. They’ve got cute quarter-size retro fridges, too. It was -10 F and windy, so we didn’t walk much, but there are at least two music venues and a football (soccer) field within walking distance, plus two breweries and a distillery. The parking garage is close and felt very safe. The rooms were clean, though I’m not the sort of person who checks dust on photo frames. A sweet place for a night, and everything seemed well thought out.

The restaurant food was good, and the cocktails were okay. The place was nice and the staff were very friendly, but dust behind the picture frames and at the headboard set off my sinuses while I slept. Housekeeping needs to check all the surfaces and wipe them down. Please work on that. Apart from the dust, this was a great place.

The rooms were comfortable and quiet, we slept well, and the amenities were great. The lobby had games and a good restaurant downstairs. If I were judging only the physical space, it’d be five stars. But we won’t be back. My husband left his headphones behind, and my parents, who had another night there, planned to pick them up at the front desk. The Tile tracker showed the headphones in the desk area. When we called, staff said they couldn’t access the hospitality/holding area and that only a manager could check the next day. The following morning the Tile showed the headphones at a trailer park down the road. We sent screenshots, and the manager called my husband to say an employee had been fired and the headphones were being returned. A few hours later, the tracker showed them back at the hotel, and we got a return shipping number. I appreciate that they dealt with it, but the whole thing was deeply concerning. There were billing problems as well. The printed checkout bill said $425, but my card was charged $470. Even allowing for the $25 security hold, that didn’t add up. On the phone, I was told the bill in their computer was $450, which differed from the paper copy. The pending charge eventually settled at $450, and I’m still confused by the numbers. The printed bill also included the full hotel register, with other guests’ names and room numbers. I doubt anyone wants their private check-in details given to another guest. On top of that, my husband didn’t get proper credit for the nights he stayed, though by then that was the least of our concerns.

The parking garage is right by the entrance, with reserved spots just past the gate. It’s a very clean, modern, welcoming hotel in a fantastic spot, a short walk from Willy Street and Capitol Square. We’d definitely stay again.
