For $81/night, you get what you’d expect: a bed, running water, and some kind of A/C - heat. We stayed because of the recent snow and a trip to Cataloochee. The elevator was broken, the lobby floors were wet and filthy, and management’s fix was to toss down towels. The hallways and stairs were cold as hell. Breakfast was a joke: eggs and sausage were empty at 8:55 and stayed that way for at least 15 min. It’s served in the attached Mexican restaurant, Catrinas, which you can skip too. It was supposed to close at 10 pm but was locked up tight at 9 pm. If you want life as a natural-disaster survivor put up by FEMA in the last motel standing, this is the place. Shelia Patel, I’d take your business card off the front desk, this is embarrassing. UPDATE (3Feb2026): The hotel responded, so I want to clarify a few things. The rooms did have heat, but my photo showed an index card saying the HVAC unit only worked on low. That’s unacceptable. The hotel said they’d replenish empty breakfast items on request, but guests shouldn’t have to monitor supplies. Someone should be assigned to keep things running. Management also didn’t address the many other issues I documented in pictures. My impression is that they know about them and accept this as the usual level of service.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was clean enough for the good night’s sleep we needed after a long road trip. Beds and bathroom were clean, though parts of the place are dated. The cold hallways and freezing Mexican restaurant where complimentary breakfast is served were uncomfortable. The elevator is very old and the corridors need updating. It’s a fairly decent hotel in the mountains, but I wouldn’t want to stay longer than one night, and these concerns would probably keep me from coming back.

The first two rooms were ice cold, warmer outside. I was told, “we don't keep the air on when we are not busy,” and that the 4th floor tends to get cold. One room had no shower curtain, and the connecting door latch was broken. Why put people on the 4th floor if it gets cold? The next two rooms felt warmer and more welcoming, but had no conditioner in the wall holder. The 3rd-floor halls were still chilly, just more tolerable. Housekeeping knocked on our doors at 830 am on checkout day, waking us earlier than we wanted. Breakfast was basic and bismal. At 930 they started cleaning up without asking if we wanted anything, like a coffee refill or hot chocolate, before taking it away. As far as I knew, breakfast was available until 10 am, so we left thirsty. $50 a night at best, not worth the $130 I paid per night for each of 2 rooms for 2 nights.

The bathroom smelled of sewer gas, apparently because the sink installer failed to put in a pee trap to block it. When we told the front desk, they didn’t seem to care and acted as if it were a regular problem. I should’ve checked reviews first, since several others have complained about the same smell. It seems they used the cheapest unqualified person to install all their sinks. This is not code complaint. The place also felt insecure. Anyone from the street could walk through an unlocked door to any room 24/7. Most places require guests to enter through the lobby after hours, if not all the time. The security lock was broken off the door, as shown in the photo.

We were traveling by motorcycle with 20 friends and stayed one night. The room was quiet, tastefully decorated, and newly renovated, with a comfortable bed. Staff were friendly, and the location was handy, next to a gas station and with its own good Mexican restaurant. We had a good stay and would come back.
