Peppertree Maggie Valley

We had a wonderful time at this riverside Airbnb. The house was well stocked, clean, and comfortable, and the porch looks right out over lovely water views. It’s a peaceful place to slow down and enjoy the scenery. We’re already looking forward to coming back.

The location is the only thing that earns this place two stars for me. It’s close to everything around here, with most drives taking 10-30 minutes. The cigarette smell was awful in our room, and apparently in every room. We couldn’t spend time in ours, and slept with the back door open each night so the smoke wouldn’t smother us. Luckily, the room used by the other half of our group smelled fine. There were other problems too. The coffee pot was filthy, with grounds dumped into the water reservoir, so we had to deep clean it before using it. My son found a small oval pill on the floor, which made it seem like the room hadn’t been vacuumed. The shower took at least 10 minutes to get even lukewarm and never got hot. If you’re short, you might not reach the button on top of the showerhead to get full water pressure. The door wouldn’t latch unless you leaned your weight against it. And we were told to strip the beds when leaving, even though the place wasn’t clean when we arrived. I don’t think I’d come back.

Summer weather here is lovely, with cool mornings and pleasant afternoons. The roomy condo units feel comfortable and private, and there are plenty of nearby restaurants with different kinds of food. You can find activities ranging from whitewater rafting to golf. Cherokee is just over the mountain, and Asheville, including the fabulous Biltmore, is about 40 miles away. Peppertree Maggie Valley resort is a hidden treasure, and I highly recommend it.

This place has gone downhill over the past ten years. They say the office is open Monday through Friday, 9 to 4, but good luck getting anyone to answer the phone. They changed the golf course, supposedly because of expenses, and have changed a lot of other things too. I’m not going to list them all.
