Falcon Ridge

We watched the sun set over the mountains and woke to a turkey calling. It’s a wonderfully peaceful place. Falcon Ridge made a great base for a couple of hikes, and the hot tub on the deck felt great afterward. We brought all our food and drinks because of Covid 19 and uncertainty about shops and restaurants, and the cabin had what we needed to cook dinner. For those views, expect steep, winding roads. Robin Roost looked intimidating at first, but our all-wheel-drive vehicle handled it fine. We turned off the radio and opened the windows to listen for other cars, and there are good pull-offs for passing. The owner was quick to respond and gave us accurate directions and useful tips.

Brandon was a lifesaver when our car battery died, finding someone to come jump-start it. My husband kept saying how nice he was while they were in touch. We got used to the drive up, just as Brandon said we would. The view at Falcons Ridge is fantastic, and the place is comfortable and stayed warm with very little heat. After taking in the scenery from the hot tub, the wood-burning fireplace with a blower was especially welcome. The internet was good, too. We’ll be back.

The house was cute and clean, with beautiful views. Brandon’s directions were spot on, and his tips for the drive up the mountain were much appreciated. We made it up just fine in a front-wheel-drive vehicle.

The mountain drive was a little scary the first time, but my nerves beforehand were unnecessary. Just take your time and you’ll be fine. I felt like a mountain girl afterward, LOL. Brandon was a great host, and the house matched the photos, with a comfy, homey feel. We spent Thanksgiving there, when the leaves were gone, but the views were still fantastic. The sunset sky was beautiful and the stars were amazing. The kitchen had plenty of dishes and cookware, and the oven, stove and microwave all worked well. The beds were comfortable, the towels were in great shape, and the hot tub was a treat after our different hikes. We could really relax, with no big plans beyond enjoying ourselves and eating. Our 11-pound toy poodle liked it too. We carried her along the rest of the road, then she could walk fine. A big dog would be in heaven. Thanks for a lovely week in the mountains.
