Tanglewood Motel and Log Cabins

A peaceful little spot on the highway, with a homey charm and a pretty pool area. The rooms are adorable and clean, and the rates are great, especially in summer. The owner is one of the sweetest women I’ve met on my travels. There’s a small playground for kids too. 10/10, I’d recommend it.

We were impressed by how well kept the room and grounds were once we arrived. For an older motel-style place, it was much better than we expected. We’d chosen it without seeing it first, partly because of the reviews and partly because the young woman who answered the phone and worked at the desk was so polite. There are lots of places to stay in Maggie Valley, but unless they’re booked, we’ll come back to Tanglewood. Everyone’s catching on. Great job Tanglewood!!!!

Priscilla was kind and apologetic, and did offer to refund us if we found somewhere else, but after traveling all day we were too tired to move on. We arrived at 9pm to a room we were very disappointed with at $100 a night. I’d booked based on the Expedia ratings and photos, which didn’t match what we saw. The two photos I took say enough. The window AC looked like it was from the 70’s and was noisy. I asked to change rooms, but Priscilla said none were available, although only two vehicles were in the parking lot. I hope the owner takes this seriously and makes positive changes. I’m not sure how the place earned a 4.4 rating.

The streamside gazebo, swing, fire pit with wood provided, and rocking chairs out front were all lovely, with mountains and wildlife around us. The mattresses made for great sleep, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the place was clean. We’ll definitely stay here again.
