Helaina made sure we had breakfast ready the night before our Haleakala sunrise trek, which was exactly what we needed for an early start and a full day out hiking. Each morning she brought a healthy, high-protein meal to our room. This is a different setup from a traditional B&B with a hot meal in a shared dining room, but it worked really well for us. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the Banyan Tree is quiet and lovely, with a great base for exploring the National Park and Upcountry. I’d happily come back.

We spent two nights in the Bamboo suite and had a lovely stay. After days out exploring Upcountry, including Haleakala and a coffee and cacao tour, the pool was a great place for our 7-year-old to use up some energy. Heleina’s place was a handy starting point for those outings, and breakfast was convenient and nice.

I was here for nearly 14 days while attending a nearby retreat, and I’m already looking forward to coming back. The grounds and pool are even more beautiful than the photos suggest, and the host was incredibly friendly and helpful. It felt like a little slice of heaven. Getting there was easy too, with clear signs from the road. Makawao, a really cute town, is about a 2-minute drive away, and the beach and Paia are around 15 minutes by car. I can’t recommend it enough.

We spent a week here and would definitely come back. It’s a special, peaceful place, with lush grounds and the feel of a quintessential old Hawaiian property. The owner and host was very accommodating, and we miss the quiet already.

I loved all the landscaping and nature around the property, and the pool was a fun spot to spend time. Helaina was sweet and quick to respond. We stayed in the Plumeria room, which was great, and I imagine the other rooms are too. The location worked well for us, with easy access to the road to Hāna, Paia, and little Makawao. My husband and I would stay here again.
