Hotel June Malibu

We spent two hours locked out after our keys stopped working, calling several times while waiting for staff. The person posted to be there at 7:30 still hadn’t arrived, so we finally called the West LA location and got a manager to help. We were offered 15% compensation, but never received confirmation it would be paid. This was the strangest hotel stay we’ve had, despite traveling all over, and the first time I’ve felt I had to leave a review to spare someone else the same experience. The room itself was in awful condition. The doors and walls, including the bathroom door, were so dirty we didn’t want to touch them. The shower’s glass seal was missing, flooding the floor every time we used it. They put us in a ground floor room with a broken window and, since no one would be in the office until morning, we had to leave it open all night. Blue painter’s tape on the outside was apparently meant to keep it shut. Spiders got in, and with every other room booked, staff added more tape and told us not to worry because the hotel was “safe.” There was nobody at the front desk after 5 pm, so check-in was an odd self-service process. I was glad I’d asked for physical keys to be left outside, since the mobile key never worked. The dark parking area and unlit path were risky, with potted cactus we nearly walked into. Our patio cushions were badly soiled, leaves covered the ground, and the doormat was just a dirty 12-inch carpet scrap. The pool was advertised as heated, but it was dirty, unheated, and had things floating in it. Its seating cushions were filthy, and the area looked abandoned. The complimentary bikes amounted to one bike with flat tires. The advertised coffee and tea setup was a dirty counter with a tiny pot holding about half a cup of lukewarm coffee. We knew the PCH road noise wasn’t something they could control, but the other problems felt like outright neglect. The place is overpriced, has no real amenities, and offers poor service.

Kieran was a big help getting us oriented around the grounds. The bungalow had everything we needed, and it made for a lovely girls’ birthday weekend. Such a cute hotel.

It’s a nice value for the area, close to Point Dume and other lively places in dreamy Malibu. The hotel itself is quaint and comfortable, and the morning coffee is great. You can hear some highway 1 noise since it’s right beside it, but it wasn’t too bad.

I called Hotel June Malibu around 4:30 pm to ask about a room tonight or tomorrow, and the call with Robyn left a terrible impression. When I asked politely whether they rented by the hour, she said no and seemed ready to hang up. I asked next about staying overnight after 6 pm, and she again tried to end the call without helping. She began checking availability for the following night, but wouldn’t answer my other questions about the property, saying a manager would have to call me back. She didn’t ask for my name or number. I offered to wait on the line. Robyn said no manager was available, then hung up without resolving anything. I called four more times and nobody picked up. It’s hard to understand this kind of dismissive, unprofessional treatment from someone in hospitality. I hope management takes it seriously. After this, I’m reconsidering ever staying there.
