Hyatt Place Saratoga Malta

The breakfast has the basics, including eggs, protein, and fruit, and they’ve clearly put thought into it. Some of the boiled eggs weren’t fresh, so I stuck with the hot cheese omelette. Staff were very helpful, and I got a surprise small gift: a free drink along with the two free bottles of water through my Hyatt member program. My room was spacious and clean, with a separate sitting area, desk, small counter for preparing a light meal, and a fridge. The surroundings felt peaceful and safe. I appreciated the posted quiet hours in the hallways and public areas as a light sleeper. Soundproofing inside the rooms was great, though noises in the hall were easy to hear.

We spent two months travelling around the northeastern USA, staying in hotels at different price points, and this one was disappointing for the money. We chose it just before Christmas for nine nights, thinking the Hyatt name and good reviews justified a splurge. The assistant manager was helpful and professional when we shortened the stay, but the two front desk staff we met during the first two days seemed disengaged and uninterested, which made for a poor welcome. At USD $172 a night, our high-floor Double Queen Room with sofa bed was too small for three adults staying that long. The apartment was clean but dated. The bathroom was extremely cramped, with just a toilet and a shower over a small tub, and no sink. My very tall husband and adult son struggled with the shower. The sink was in the bedroom, the wardrobe door wouldn’t open all the way, and storage was limited to a small three-drawer chest. There was a small desk, a wobbly fridge, a little coffee machine with only two mugs, and one TV awkwardly placed between the bed and sofa. We didn’t have a microwave until we asked for one. Other places we stayed that were set up for three or more adults had a separate bedroom and another TV for much less per night. My husband needed the small desk for work, so our son had to use the ironing board as a makeshift study desk. It broke when opened, though it was replaced promptly. For the price, that added to the disappointment.

The grounds were lovely, with clean landscaped areas and flowers, plus a patch left wild with milkweed and other plants. As an avid supporter of Monarchs, I was happy to stand outside watching Monarchs and dragonflies. There can’t be Monarchs without milkweed and flowers. Inside, the staff were friendly, the room was clean, and the temperature stayed comfortable all night. The bathroom is the one odd part, the shower could use a better door. Getting there was easy, and I was impressed by the location. I recommend Hyatt Place Saratoga/Malta to visitors and locals who’d enjoy a peaceful stay with butterflies.

I won’t stay here again. It took over a month to get a reply about a billing question, and the response still didn’t address the main issue. A front desk employee had reviewed and corrected my rate in person, confirmed the change, and gave me updated paperwork. Later, the adjustment was reversed or mishandled without any notice. That suggests a serious breakdown internally, whether staff are making changes without authorization or management isn’t keeping track of them. Guests shouldn’t have to chase billing errors or worry about unexplained changes to charges. The lack of accountability, or even a basic apology, made this worse.
