General Warren

The food and atmosphere are always good, but the service needs work. My wife and I went with another couple for an early dinner at 6:15 p.m. and weren’t out until after 9. The waitress kept recommending dishes with dairy to my wife, even after we told her several times that she has a dairy allergy. We left feeling exhausted.

Every February we spend a night at the Inn for a little getaway. The rooms and atmosphere are charming, and the hosts and staff are attentive. There are different dining rooms at the restaurant, plus a great bar. The four-season porch is especially romantic. We’ll be back next year.

We stayed in the General Washington suite this time and loved it. The inn keeper was lovely, too. Before leaving, we had coffee and a pastry of our choice for a simple breakfast. Given how good dinner was, I would’ve liked something more substantial, but it wouldn’t keep me from returning. This was our second private event at the General Warren, a year after the first. We started downstairs with butler-passed hors d'oeuvres in a lovely room with cozy fireplaces and indoor fire pits. It gets warm quickly when full. The shrimp cocktail, Asian chicken skewers, cheesesteak spring rolls, and sweet pea hummus tarts were all delicious. Dinner was served off the bar in a private room, with five first courses, five second courses, and several desserts to choose from. I picked the French Onion Bisque, a clever version of French onion soup, braised filet carbonara, and raspberry mousse. I also sampled the well-known snapper turtle soup. I was impressed with all the food.

The food is amazing, and I’ve never had a bad experience. The team makes you feel like family. Amanda has been my favorite so far, and I highly recommend her for a date night. I honestly can’t think of anything negative to say about this place.
