Bed bugs! I’d give no stars if I could, though the man who checked me in was kind, apologetic, and accommodating. The room I’d booked was a mess: the bed hadn’t been made, sheets and covers were on the floor, belongings were scattered around, and cabinet doors hung off their hinges. He moved me to another room. At first it looked fairly clean, but under the covers I found dirt, crumbs, and hair, one pillowcase looked dirty, and I had to wipe a couple of brown stains off the comforter. I was there one night and worked all the next day. When I returned around 9 pm, I saw a bug crawling up a table leg. I took photos and showed the front desk woman, who rudely asked if I had pictures, then insisted the bug was an ant. Even after I showed her what bed bugs look like, she said she could refund me but I had to leave then because she was going home. I explained I needed time to heat-treat my clothes and belongings before packing them in the car. She was initially rude about giving me trash bags, offered no help with the treatment costs, and said there were no other rooms, so I had to go. They wouldn’t give me a full refund; Expedia helped me recover part of the payment. I also took video, but was told they were cockroaches. Either way, bed bugs or cockroaches, it’s an infestation, and I wanted my money back. Worst stay I’ve ever had.

The first room they gave us clearly hadn’t been cleaned, but when we went to ask for another, staff acted like the mess was our fault. The replacement was barely acceptable, so we used cleaning supplies we had on the truck and cleaned it ourselves before bed. Sleeping there was miserable. The mattress felt like plywood, the pillows were practically nonexistent, and the sheets and blanket were worn thin. Neither of us slept well over the past three nights. Dogs barked and people yelled in the halls at odd hours. Our keys stopped working randomly twice, so we needed replacements. Staff weren’t especially pleasant, and their odd towel rule meant I had to bring back our wet, dirty towels to get fresh ones. This may be the worst hotel I’ve stayed in.

This may be a 2.5-star hotel, but the way the staff treat people deserves five. Our reserved room wasn’t available, so they upgraded us at no extra charge, with no hassle or attitude. Everyone was kind, friendly, and informative, and took time to listen and understand what we needed. That’s better service than some places charging three times as much. The hotel and parking lot were clean, with plenty of spaces. They’re strict about the no-smoking policy, which is exactly what you want if you don’t smoke. There are eateries nearby, including Sly Fox, Chick'n's, and Peet's, so you’re not stuck without options. It’s no Four Seasons, but the place is cared for, and the people running it clearly give a damn. Highly recommend.

Staff were friendly, but getting problems fixed was difficult. My room had no shower curtain and broken cupboards, and front desk availability was limited. At one point guests were locked out because the entrance had been closed. With the new ownership, things still seem unsettled. Prices have risen a lot, I was quoted $394 a night, while quality has slipped. The long-stay rates I used to get were no longer available, and basic things like breakfast and good coffee are missing. It no longer feels like good value compared with my earlier stays.

We booked two rooms and arrived to find out our reservations had been cancelled, with no notice to us. Around 50 guests came to check in and were told the same thing by the receptionist, who appeared to be the manager. She said the rooms were cancelled because other guests had extended their stays. She was rude, disrespectful, and barely apologetic. The experience disgusted me, and I won’t support a Motel 6 company again. There wasn’t even a name on the building, making it impossible to tell which hotel it was. Avoid this place.
