Hotel Alexander

We booked two cute rooms for a girls' weekend, with Mankato as our meeting point. There was plenty of space to hang out, plus a coffee and lounge area with cute decor. The basement had an adorable phone booth for photos. Staff were really friendly, and check-in was easy. The hotel is close to everything we needed.

The towels, mattress, and pillow were very good, but a lot of the rest of my stay was disappointing. The hotel advertises big windows with expansive views in every room. Mine had a tiny window facing an alley and a brick wall. That's not something to complain about on its own, but it added to the feeling that the listing wasn't accurate. I also had only three hangers, though ten garment hangers were advertised. I never got a text or other message before arriving, so I didn't know I needed a code for the front door. I had to call the desk to be let in. The woman wasn't in the building but gave me the code, then I waited for her to arrive and check me in, give me my room number, and provide the room code. I received no messages during the stay either. On the second evening, I found the room hadn't been cleaned and contacted the desk. She confirmed my phone number and tried texting, but nothing came through. She said she'd ask housekeeping to clean the next morning and brought me a breakfast box, but couldn't access bottled water to restock it. On the third evening the room still hadn't been cleaned, the water wasn't restocked, and there was no breakfast box for the next morning. No one was at the front desk when I stopped by, so I left a note asking for a box. It arrived about three hours later, around 9:45 p.m. On my last morning there was no coffee upstairs. The woman at the desk said it would have to wait until someone else could go up and make more. The coffee on the other mornings was very weak. The breakfast box felt more like a snack than breakfast, and I was disappointed there were no hot breakfast choices.

The whole trip felt memorable thanks to the atmosphere, attentive service, and care for the little details at Hotel Alexander in Mankato. I had an incredible stay and couldn't recommend it more.

Check-in was simple, and parking in the back lot was easy. The rooms were clean and quiet, and the little prepared breakfast boxes were nice. The Roku smart TV was a good extra, too. Great place to stay.
