We spent 3 nights at Decker Hotel and Bar in Maquoketa with our toddler and infant, and the owners made us feel at home right away. They were kind, helpful, and genuinely sweet. The building is a beautifully maintained heritage property, full of character and quirky, old-world decor. The high ceilings and roomy spaces made it feel comfortable and elegant, and every room is different. We had the one-bedroom king room with a hot tub, and loved relaxing in it after a day of exploring. The jets were great, and the bedding was the comfiest we've ever slept on. We'd highly recommend Decker Hotel and Bar to anyone visiting Maquoketa. It's a warm, welcoming, memorable place to stay.

The clerk didn't apologize or offer a refund when we said we were leaving after killing a roach in the room. We ended up sleeping in our car. The sheets were stained, there was human hair in the bed, and the pillowcases, which should have been white, were literally stained brown. GROSS. This is the most horrible hotel I've ever set foot in. It needs to be shut down because it's not suitable for people to stay in.

An old, charming hotel that feels like stepping into another time. The rooms were clean, and having a jacuzzi in ours was nice. There aren't things like ice service or vending machines, which somehow added to the charm. The bar is closed now, but we'll definitely stay here again.

We paid $197 for one night and expected more. My husband and I have stayed at the Decker Hotel on and off for about 20 years, through several changes in management, and it seems to have changed again. The building was restored years ago, but the outside is now looking pretty run down. Inside was cleaner than on our last visit, and the bed was comfortable. The TV only had a handful of random channels, like HGTV, Weather Channel, and National Geographic, with no network channels or ESPN. When we asked at the desk, the man managed to tell us it was channels 2-24, though English wasn't his first language. Half of those channels had no content. We wanted to watch our college football team on Saturday, but couldn't. I would've liked to read instead, but there was a bedside table and lamp on only one side of the bed, even though there was room for another, so no light to read by. The “breakfast room” was a joke: a table with snack bars, bananas, some cereal, and a pretty empty fridge. The good restaurant that used to be on the first floor and the bar downstairs are both gone.

A quiet, nice place to stay that felt like a step back in time. The man who greeted us was really friendly, helpful, and accommodating.
