The Reef at Marathon

We had great sunsets while we were there, though in October we had to drive to see the full sunset. The 7 mile bridge park isn't far away. I was told the marina has sunset views in summer. Some units are closer to the water than others, but everyone can fish off the dock and dock their boats. The boat ramp has size limits, though larger boats can use a public ramp and then motor over. We used the on-site cruiser bikes to ride around the resort, and enjoyed the lovely salt-water pool. The tennis court is great, but could use lights for night play. The kids managed with a small flashlight on the west-most court. There are two fish-cleaning tables with spray hoses, and we saw the huge manatee and nurse sharks that frequent the marina. The condo was spacious enough for six, with comfortable beds and a small but workable kitchen, a small bar, and a medium table with four chairs. There aren't many cooking pots or utensils, so bring any favorites. Staff responded quickly to other issues. You drive up to unload, then park in the lot a short walk away. Units involve a full flight of stairs. Washer and dryers are downstairs in an enclosed area that can also hold bikes or fishing gear.

We were given waterfront unit 37 without asking, and the views were amazing. We went kayaking for free and really enjoyed the pool. Having two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a washer and dryer was great for saving money by cooking and doing laundry. Beach towels were provided, too. It was quiet and suited couples or families.

The cottage had a breathtaking view, and we enjoyed using the kayaks. The grounds are beautiful, and the heated pool was nice and not crowded. Our unit was older, but clean and comfortable, and the location was great.

Beautiful place, with everything you need for a great vacation: a pool, bikes, kayaks, and plenty more. It's on Marathon key, one of the best Keys, with great restaurants.
