A gas station across the street made it easy to pick up snacks and drinks, and an Italian restaurant nearby delivered. Marathon is a cute little town, and even with our car trouble, it felt like we’d landed in the right place at the right time. We booked at the last minute and the owners replied quickly, with a room available. Ours was one of the newer renovated rooms, clean and stocked with toiletries. The shower was great, and its heated vent kept the bathroom toasty. Customer service was great, and the room was just what we needed. We’re glad to support a family run small business. Be patient while they work through the renovations. I’d recommend staying here.

Room 26 had a view I really liked, though I don’t know if all the rooms look out the same way. We stayed in a renovated one bedroom room, and it looked amazing, with such a nice vibe. After our vehicle collision, we needed somewhere urgently, and the owner came out around midnight to check us in. If I’m in the area again, I’ll make a point of staying here. Highly recommend. The town is wonderful too. So many people from the community came out to help us that night, and it’s worth stopping here for a night.

The shower was the best part of our recently renovated room. It let me adjust both water temperature and pressure, and was set up well. The decor was okay and the bathroom decent, but after an overnight visit I don’t think this place deserves its 4.3 star Google rating. It wasn’t the worst stay I’ve had, but it was among the more unpleasant ones. The room and building had a number of problems. As a bigger guy, I found the standard toilet uncomfortable, and the bed wasn’t big enough for my wife and me to sleep comfortably, even though it wasn’t uncomfortable otherwise. The bathroom door had to be forced shut to latch. Correction: I later checked with my wife and there was a hook in the room after all, so my earlier complaint about no hooks was mistaken. The exhaust fan also heated the bathroom while the shower was running, which wasn’t great. The floors felt sticky underfoot. There were dead flies on the floors in at least two rooms we checked for family. I saw at least two in ours, and another family member’s room seemed to have about 6-10. One room also smelled strongly, possibly because someone had smoked marijuana there before we arrived. I use a CPAP machine, and it kept having an under-voltage problem. I tried several outlets directly and got the same issue, so it seemed there might be an electrical wiring problem. After a long day, I only got about 5 hours of rough sleep and woke with a very sore throat and an audible wheeze. I also woke and vomited after drinking some water. I can’t tell whether that was related to the room, the local water system, or something with the room’s water supply, so I’d bring your own water to be safe.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, just came in for dinner, and ended up loving the meal. The boneless wings with chipotle came first, and the homemade sauce was delicious from the first bite. We ordered a grilled fisherman’s platter with haddock, scallops, shrimp, and a homemade crab cake. Everything was seasoned well and really good. The bacon cheese burger had great flavor too, with a bit of char that worked nicely. For dessert we shared a chocolate brownie sundae, and the brownies tasted freshly made. We liked the wings enough to order another portion to take with us. Everything on the menu looked great, and I’m sure you’ll find something you like.
