Tranquility Bay Beachfront Hotel and Resort

The private beach was gorgeous and such a relaxing place to spend time. We also loved the views and the pools. Our room was clean and comfortable, and it was easy to get to everything we wanted to do from this location. We had a great time and would gladly come back. Highly recommend.

I paid top dollar for this room, but the carpet felt gross and needs replacing. The beach wasn’t well kept and didn’t seem worth the extra money. When I asked room service for a towel, they stared at me and walked off, so I still had no towel. Staff had been acting strangely since I arrived, complaining that I was late even though it was a long drive and saying they couldn’t check me in. Edit: It seems none of the employees spoke English, which caused the confusion. The labor might be imported. After spending some time on the beach, I did appreciate it a bit more.

The resort looks lovely, but there’s room for improvement. Our garden suite was clean and comfortable, though the coffee maker was outdated and came with annoying single serving packets of powdered creamer and sugar. There was no good way to hang clothes, and a compressor in the utility closet would get very loud now and then. Housekeeping generally didn’t get to our room until around 4:00, just as we were returning from our activities. Service was uneven. The tiki bar staff were attentive, though not welcoming, unlike the surprisingly friendly service people we encountered elsewhere on the Keys. We asked for wine glasses and a cork screw and got them four hours later, after we needed them. The most frustrating part was that our expensive breakfasts arrived cold.

The place itself is beautiful, but the food and service are terrible. Room service was an hour late and cold, and towels never showed up when we asked, so bring laundry detergent and wash your own. Don’t count on clean towels or a decent meal. You’re better off planning to eat out or bring your own food if you want something warm. Also, if you don’t speak Spanish, staff won’t be able to talk with you.
