JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort

We were excited to pay over $1,000 a night for a partial ocean view room, expecting fabulous service and a hotel to match. Our stay was very disappointing. The room was spacious and the view and beach were nice, but it was dirty: brown stains on the sheets and a grimy remote. Food beyond the breakfast buffet was really bad. The chicken tenders and fries were burnt, and the shrimp po' boy was a joke. On the beach, motorized carts kept driving up and down with food and drinks, making it hard to relax. One woman parked right in front of us and blocked our view, then we had to listen to her apologize to people about late food for over an hour. Service was subpar, and staff weren’t very hospitable. I overheard two front desk employees speaking badly about a guest who had just left. My husband also called twice two days before our stay to book me a massage, left a message, and never got a call back. At this price, we expected more. It felt overpriced for what it is and definitely not like a luxury hotel. If you want a high-end place with great service and a luxury feel, look elsewhere. Don’t waste your time and money here.

There’s plenty to keep you occupied without leaving the resort: several pools, a spa, gym, sauna, steam room, hot tub, plus shops, restaurants, and bars. The beach is lovely for shelling, and the ocean views from the room and beachfront are especially striking at sunrise and sunset. We had a roomy, comfortable room with an airy layout, plush bed, and a stunning ocean view. The balcony was the best part, great for coffee in the morning or watching the sun dip into the water. Prices for the hotel and amenities are high, and most on-site dining was fairly average. The location helps, with several good restaurants an easy walk away. Thin walls were the biggest drawback: hallway noise and sounds from neighboring rooms came through clearly and made it harder to relax. Service also felt surprisingly hands-off for this kind of resort, without the polished hospitality or thoughtful touches you might expect. A nice spot for sun and sand, as long as you don’t expect perfection.

This is the most beautiful place we’ve stayed. When a major winter storm forced us to change our plans, the staff were extremely accommodating and helped us sort out the changes. We really appreciated the daily beach chairs and umbrella, and the food and drinks brought to the beach were a perfect touch so we didn’t have to leave. The service was amazing. Thanks to everyone there, we highly recommend the resort!
