The drive out to Harrah’s Ak-Chin Hotel & Casino is long, the roads are narrow, and there aren’t many other options nearby. After this, I can’t see myself returning. I’ve been a Caesars Rewards member since 2005 and have stayed at several Caesars properties, but I’ve never been treated this badly. Getting pushed out of a room I’d paid for while traveling with my kids because an online booking was given priority over someone already checked in is beyond unacceptable. Harrah’s needs better leadership on property. I’d extended our stay after running the Mesa Marathon and visiting family so my kids and I could use the pool and relax. On Saturday night at the front desk, I clearly booked and paid for two nights. The charge was over $600, in line with the nightly rate, and I took the room. Then, the next day while we were out enjoying our vacation, I got a call saying I had to come back right away and leave. Supervisor Nataly said an online reservation made THAT MORNING took priority. The desk employee from the night before had supposedly entered only one night, and I was told that mistake was my problem. I was made to leave at noon. They offered a room switch, but the replacement was dirty and I couldn’t get into it until after 3 PM. So I was out of my paid room for hours, waiting for a dirty one. When I said how unacceptable it was, Nataly was dismissive and condescending, with no empathy or ownership. Jack was the one good part of this mess. He apologized more than once and really tried to help. He said he’s studying management, and he showed far more understanding of hospitality than the supervisor. One of the worst stays I’ve ever had.

We’d been having a good time celebrating my birthday when I lost a ticket worth a little over $200. I’d put it in the left side of my coat before going to the restroom, then returned to a machine and put in my players club card. That’s when I noticed the ticket was gone. I went straight to security and reported it. Ms.Melinda Fischer tried to locate it. I asked whether she could void the ticket so nobody could cash it, but she said she couldn’t. Mr.Raven Fugate then came over, introduced himself, and asked whether I wanted to press charges if someone had taken it and played it on another machine. At first they were professional, but then they said I’d left it in the machine and there was nothing they could do. I asked Mr.Fugate to do a roll back to check whether I’d left it there or dropped it from my pocket. He said he couldn’t. Ms. Fischer said it was my fault, and that was that. I used to work security at Lone Butte. We would void a ticket and check the machine history to find who picked it up, then get the ticket back from that person and return it to its owner. At Gila River Casino, we were taught to check machines for tickets and have a slot attendant cash any found ticket out to the cage for safekeeping until its owner reported it missing. I stayed cordial and didn’t disrespect anyone. I told them both I’d file a formal complaint with TGA and asked for the main Casino Manager and corporate phone number. They gave me their cards when I asked for contact information. I then rejoined my friends, watched her play, and didn’t make a scene. We left when she was ready. As a former security guard, I tried to make customers feel safe. Harrahs didn’t do that for us. On the way home, my friends and I decided we won’t return to any Harrah property. We’ve stayed in Laughlin and Las Vegas, but we don’t feel safe there now and will go to casinos closer to Mesa. John Micheal can confirm how I behaved. We worked together at Lone Butte when He worked for Ovations. I lost $200, but Harrah lost more. After over 20 years of supporting Harrah, it’s no longer appealing, just another Casino.

The casino has live dealers, which matters a lot to me, and I liked the slot selection. I left a winner. At Chop Block & brew, Denise gave us great suggestions. The blackened salmon was flavorful and moist, the mashed potatoes were just right with a nice garlic sauce, and the bone-in steak was tender and perfectly cooked. My blueberry margarita was well made with a good amount of tequila, though I couldn’t taste liquor in the blueberry lemon drop. The silverware linen had a cooked-oil smell, like it was old and dirty, and it put me off my food. I also wouldn’t recommend the Caesar salad because the dressing left a tangy, sour aftertaste. Jayne, the Caesars rewards concierge woman, was polite and quick, and helped me sign up and access my new member bonuses. The young woman at check-in was helpful too. I’m annoyed I forgot her name, especially since she’d lost her voice but still assisted me accurately. The room was nice, though cleanliness could’ve been better. There was a toenail in the bed and long hairs on both the sink and shower floor.

The hotel staff were super nice and friendly, and I’d probably come back for a short stay. The location is a bit out there, though not so far from Phoenix that it feels uncomfortable. The pool area looks stunning, but the smell of cow poop around it is no joke. Apparently there are farms all around the hotel, and outside by the pool it feels like sitting in a pressure chamber of poop-smelling air. I’m not sure I could spend long there. Inside, the place was cleaner than most hotels I’ve been to, especially in Vegas. It didn’t smell of stale cigarettes or beer except in the casino smoking sections. The casino is a good size without being huge, so you don’t feel trapped inside, and the air control was good. I’d also love to have affordable coffee on the premises.

We were miserable the whole night and didn’t enjoy any of it. My husband kept having asthma attacks and slept badly. We won’t be back. Communication was lacking, the room cleanliness was terrible, and the entire stay was horrible. We’d heard this place was amazing and reasonably priced, and wanted a romantic getaway for just the two of us. Check-in had no warm welcome and was confusing. We got three keys for our room with no explanation. The AC wouldn’t go below 75F. Downstairs, I was first told it should work if we left a key by the front door and didn’t remove it, or the AC would turn off again. We went back up and tried to relax, but my husband had a really bad asthma attack. I called the front desk to ask about switching rooms, and was told we couldn’t because we were staying for an extended period. We also asked if any rooms had balcony doors that opened, and the guy said no, even though we could see a balcony door right outside the window. A supervisor later said we could move if we paid the difference. We agreed and switched rooms, but it didn’t help. The room still stank, was smaller, and cost us more for less. After checkout the next day, they charged our card about $260 for one night. They said there was an extra $50 hold for room charges, which nobody had told us about. They did credit back the $50 fee and the room-change charge.
