Rock Island Inn & Suites Marshalltown

My daughter couldn't enjoy the pool because it was extremely cold. It would've helped to know that ahead of time. Housekeeping also came into our room despite the “do not disturb” sign. We'd arrived late the night before and weren't going to be in the room. The beds and pull-out mattress were uncomfortable enough that, with my bad back, I had to buy a mattress topper to get any rest. We're here for a tumbling event, and when my wife asked the front desk for scissors or clippers to take down our daughter's hair, she was told no before she could finish explaining. The room sign said staff would bring requested items like towels, especially since ours had been taken, but the towels never arrived. Service has been lacking, and there are several things that need improvement.

The staff made us feel welcome and were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and the atmosphere quiet, and the price was budget friendly. With local attractions and essentials conveniently accessible, Rock Island Inn & Suites Marshalltown is a straightforward, good value place to stay.

I felt unsafe and uncomfortable the whole stay. After checking in late at night, I found the ground floor window unlocked. The latch was broken, leaving it cracked open, and the screen wasn't attached, so someone could easily climb in. I propped the ironing board against it at first to feel safer. The single pane window also had a big crack covered with tape. When I raised the safety issue and asked for a second floor room, the staff refused and showed no apology or concern. The room had a moist, sticky floor and a strong fruity smell that seemed to cover something unpleasant. Extremely disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Breakfast was very good, and it was nice to have real plates and silverware. The person working breakfast was delightful. Our room was clean and the bed really comfortable, too. We found this place while traveling and were pleasantly surprised. The front desk person was so welcoming and even gave us a little gift bag. What a breath of fresh air!
