Days Inn Martin

We were visiting our daughter at college and ended up having to find another place to stay at 4 am. I'd called ahead to explain we'd arrive around 3, but after we got keys for room 121, we found a bad smell and lots of dead flies or bugs on the floor, plus several on the ceiling. We asked for a different room, and the front desk said it had been cleaned, though it clearly hadn't. He cancelled our reservation right there. We pointed out other rooms that looked available, but he said there were none and told us goodbye. I'd stayed here before, but after this experience I'll never come back.

The AC worked and the room was quiet. Beyond that, there wasn't much to like. There was liquid under the dresser glass, dried Ramen in a drawer, and floors that hadn't been swept properly in a long time. The spots behind the furniture looked like they may never have been swept or mopped. Although it was meant to be a non-smoking room, it and the bedding smelled of smoke. The hairdryer was covered in makeup, and there was a moldy coffee packet in the tray. The microwave was dirty, and the safety bar was loose, held by screws without being secured. It fell off the wall while I was showering. Outside the room, the place looked like an abandoned property. I should have taken the front desk sign warning that no refunds would be given five minutes after checkout as a clue.

For the price, we weren't expecting much, but we still didn't want a gross stay. It was even hard to get to. The breakfast was meager and awful: the juice machine was off, and after the manager turned it on, it gave slightly tinted water I was afraid to try. The margarine in the fridge was shrunken and discolored, and I know what that product should look like because we use it at home. Most doors had no numbers while they were being poorly repainted, so finding our way in the dark was hard. Something had spilled in front of the fridge and hadn't been cleaned. The bathroom light switch didn't turn on the toilet compartment fan; the sink light did. We couldn't lock the room with the deadbolt, there was no guide to the TV stations, and the bed came untucked when I pulled back the covers.

Please fix the bathroom locks. I locked the door out of habit before showering, then couldn't get it open afterward. The exhaust fan wasn't working, and the room got stuffy. I have COPD and started panicking and losing my breath. I tried to calm down, then hit and twisted the lock hard until it finally opened, about 15 minutes later.
