Muir Lodge Motel

The location is about two miles from the Amtrak station. There isn’t a closer motel, despite the station being a hub for buses and trains in every direction. The city has bus service, and there’s a ride service after hours, so getting here wasn’t too difficult. I caught the last bus and arrived at 8:00 pm. The couple working late seemed to be living in one of the rooms, like family motels used to be run, which helps keep the rates down. They were expecting me, both were friendly, and they checked that everything was okay after I got settled. The outside has a classic motel look and a beautiful vintage neon sign, while inside it’s modern, with wood floors and furniture. I was surprised to find somewhere reasonably priced that was so clean and comfortable, with everything needed for coffee or tea and individually wrapped pastries. [Personally, I wouldn’t trust a reviewer who says “Zero stars” and then rates the place 3/5, which is literally three stars. 3 ≠ 0. I’m surprised their limited math skills didn’t cause trouble at check-in. Paying for things involves handling numbers, fees, and such. Anyway, here’s my review.]

There’s plenty of space, and the room feels welcoming. It was beautifully clean, with lovely lighting and a decent-sized tub and shower. I’d happily stay here again. :)

The bed springs kept me awake all night. On top of that, the cleaner was way too strong. My nose and eyes burned and I got an immediate headache. Even with the window open and the fan running, it was still really bad.

The owners are very nice, and the rooms are clean. Parking can turn into a bit of a race for spaces. The showers are small but fancy, with good water pressure.
