Comfort Inn Martinsville, Va

We got there exhausted at about 12:45 AM, ready to sleep, but the room hit us with a nauseating smell like rotting death mixed with stale cigarettes. The toilet wouldn't flush, and the door was broken and wouldn't latch, which felt terrifying. I went to the desk to ask for another room and was told nothing could be done. No help, no apology, just indifference. We left at 1:00 AM, only fifteen minutes after checking in, and drove to another hotel. The room was completely uninhabitable. Save your money and your health, and stay somewhere else.

It used to be a pretty decent hotel under a different name. This place looked like it ought to be abandoned. I walked in and left right away. People apparently stay there, but I don't know how they're getting customers.

The room was awful, with dirty walls, very poor lighting, and a parking lot that was dark and needed more lights. There wasn't a phone in the room, so you'd have to use your own cell to call downstairs. The entrance door wasn't locked in the late evening, meaning anyone could walk in. The front desk guy told my mother he was off while we were checking in, and he didn't help us with our luggage. Staff didn't seem friendly or helpful, and the cleaning girl never came to pick up the dirty towels from the floor. The room had no microwave, one lamp was missing a bulb, and the wardrobe closet was very small. The sink was behind the door in the same space as the bed, not in a proper bathroom. The toilet and shower were tucked into a tiny corner, with nowhere in the shower to put soap. There's no tub either, which seems inconvenient for small children or anyone who can't stand for long because of a physical ailment.

I stay with the Comfort Inn brand a lot, so I was shocked by how horrible this place was, especially for what I paid. It needs care badly. The lights didn't work or were burned out, the refrigerator was nasty, the shower had mold, and the sink drained slowly. The bed sheets were nasty, and the walls were dirty. Front doors didn't work, so we had to open them by hand. Moldy breakfast fruit, an old washer and dryer sitting at the front side of the hotel, and unfriendly front desk staff made it worse. The housekeepers were the nicest people there. Even the food prep lady was unfriendly.
