After a four-hour trip with my family, we found our assigned room in terrible shape at Wingate by Wyndham Southport, NC. Beer bottles and pizza boxes were left behind, the bed was unmade, and it was obvious the room hadn’t been cleaned. That raised serious cleanliness and safety concerns, especially with children traveling with us. We’d booked two beds, but the front desk offered a single bed and a sleeper sofa instead. The sofa smelled awful and didn’t work for our family, so we weren’t comfortable staying in either option. The next morning, we were told to talk to management, but they offered a 20% discount before we’d even had a chance to explain everything. It didn’t address the discomfort, inconvenience, or lack of suitable accommodations. We slept poorly and felt brushed off. Basic cleanliness and proper rooms are expected at a hotel, and this location fell short. It was a frustrating, unacceptable stay, and based on our experience, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The beds have been clean every time I checked them for critters, and the staff are friendly. Sleeping is comfy and cozy, and parking is easy. I stayed through a few storms and didn’t have a single issue.

The bed was so comfortable, and the staff were really nice. The free breakfast was disappointing, with terrible choices. The TV guide was hard to use, and there was no streaming access.

The pizza place across the street is excellent. I stay here now and then when visiting my mother at her assisted living facility, and the location works well for both that and downtown Southport. There aren’t many other hotels nearby, but at $95 a night, you get what you pay for. The rooms are decent, the lobby is clean, and breakfast is okay. Fine for one night, maybe two.

The front desk person was very nice, but the rooms were filthy. The first one smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, so I switched rooms, and the second was just as dirty, from the fridge to the bathroom. I’d rather sleep in my car. See photos. I don’t know how anyone could call this place clean without staying here.
