Days Inn Mason City

My family and I had been in the room for seven hours when we found a dead mouse. The front desk woman said it had never happened before, then tried to tell us it wasn’t a mouse as she came to the room. She swept it with a broom and tore it apart, and the room smelled horrible afterward. She didn’t offer another room or a refund, just said, “Everything should be good now.” The room already seemed iffy in terms of cleanliness. I don’t recommend this place.

The place smelled like cigarettes as soon as I walked in, and there were cigarette burn holes in my sheets, even though I was in a smoke-free room. Don’t go there. I’d rather sleep in a tent.

The hosts were so welcoming, accommodating, and fun. The rooms were nice and clean, and very comfortable. I found the place above and beyond, and great value for the money.

Check-in was efficient, and the room was very clean and tidy, with updated finishes. The hallways are older, though. Smoke smell came through the bathroom vent, probably from the neighbor next door. I reported it to the front desk, but it made the stay pretty unpleasant. Breakfast was the most limited I’ve had at a Days Inn: no eggs, sausage, or hash browns, just waffles you make yourself for hot food. They had a limited number of cold hard-boiled eggs, the only protein option. There’s no elevator, so check where your room is ahead of time if stairs are a problem with your luggage.
