Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Mason City - Clear Lake

The property looks its age, maybe 50-60 years old, and is run-down inside and out. It really needs renovation. I wonder if Choice Hotels has spread itself too thin across all its brands and locations. Several Econolodges I’ve stayed at in recent years have also looked worn and in need of work. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived Friday afternoon, and we waited a few minutes for someone to check us in. Chrissy explained that a housekeeper had quit earlier that day, then worked hard to get our room ready and was very pleasant. Management, please give her a raise and some help!

I stayed here every weekend from January through the first week of April, so ignore every bad review. The desk gentleman was friendly, and check-in took less than a minute. My room was always clean, and the bed was pretty comfortable. On cold days, they even turned the heat on before I arrived. I never had trouble with hot water or a smoky smell in the room. If work brings me back this way, I’ll stay here without a doubt. Great value for the cost!

The room and bed were clean, and the hot water was consistent. Those are the only positives I can give. Don’t expect more!

Good motel for the price. The outside looks a little dated, though I actually liked the retro feel. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and there were several places to eat within a block. The busy street outside can make it somewhat noisy. Unless you’re a very light sleeper, you should be fine.
