Holiday Inn Express and Suites Mason City by IHG

I came away feeling I didn't get much rest. Still, it's a very nice hotel, and I may try it again next time I'm in town. The room was spacious, beautiful, and very clean, better than another Holiday Inn I'd stayed at. But some softener or room spray had a powerful, unpleasant, chemically sweet smell. It seemed like it might be covering smoke or something else, though I don't know. The smell gave me a bad headache and kept me awake. Please change whatever you're using, it's too strong. The breakfast was hot and delicious, and I especially liked the egg white omelette. The front desk person wasn't especially nice, but was polite and professional. The housekeeper was much more of a problem. She banged loudly while cleaning another room, and I could hear it clearly from my room when I was trying to rest after not sleeping the night before. It sounded like she was hitting things over and over and throwing them around out of frustration. I went out and saw her still cleaning. She didn't look happy. I don't know what was going on, but it felt very unprofessional. The banging made me feel like the message was, 'I'm working, so get out and let me finish.'

My wife and I spent nine nights at this hotel while her mother was in a nearby hospital. It was conveniently located for visiting her, with plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and the hotel was very clean. We also enjoyed the free breakfast each day. It was a wonderful stay.

We were stranded for two nights by a blizzard, and the workers were so kind. They let me check in early with my two littles and my mother. Breakfast was nice, the coffee was good, and the location was really convenient. I hope we can come back and see more of the area sometime.

Whenever I'm near Mason City, this will be my hotel. Check-in was quick and easy, and the rooms are very nice. The breakfast was the best I've seen at a hotel, and I stay in 15-30 hotels a year on average. Crystal and her staff are super nice and care about their customers' experience.
