Super 8 Mason City

The next morning's breakfast was disappointing. It was served in the main lobby by the front door, where two large windows let in a huge amount of cold air. I wouldn't recommend this hotel or stay there again. I know the place may be old, but it could use renovations, even simple things like sealing the ceilings around the windows. I stayed on December 28th after work because the weather kept me from getting out of town. Check-in was very nice and the room looked okay at first. But the shower had no water pressure, wind blew around the whole window through areas that weren't sealed, and the heater didn't produce much heat. I put towels along the bottom of the window and kept the curtain shut. After showering and getting into bed, I noticed things on and in my sheets. They looked like bed bugs, and I was freaking out. I work in the US, so I know what they look like. There was also some kind of stain on the comforter, and the door lock was broken. The manager saw the lock and said he'd fix it the next day. He came up to look at what I found in the sheets and said there was no way it could be bed bugs because an outside source comes in to take care of everything and spray. They didn't move me to another room even though I felt it was dirty, and I showed the manager pictures. I called and left a message and emailed corporate, but didn't get a good reply and nothing was done.

My room was damp and smelled strongly of cigarettes. The place is generally clean, though it could use a proper deep scrub. It's a pretty standard Super 8 that's been around a long time, and it shows.

We were very happy with our two-night stay at this Super 8. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was immaculate. The bed was firm and comfortable.

I've stayed here a few times and really like what they've done with the place. Renovations were still underway, so far so good, and I can't wait to see how it turns out. The food was really good with lots of choices, and the staff were very friendly.
