The Rustic Inn

The name Rustic Inn fits. The decor and amenities capture McCall’s character well, and the location is great. Staff were friendly, the rooms were clean, and there wasn’t any trash in the parking lot. There were a screw or two loose, but with more than 75 rooms and a small staff, that seems understandable. I’d absolutely recommend it to a friend.

You get about what you pay for, and Rustic Inn really is rustic. The staff are super nice, and the rooms were clean, but the beds are old, even if comfortable enough. The walls are thin, so you hear neighbors’ TVs and people coming and going. We also didn’t have a microwave, even though the website photo showed one. It feels like the basics only, and you have to ask if you need extras.

Booking and check-in were quick and easy, and our pet-friendly room was clean and nicely prepared. But around 1 a.m., after my wife and I had gone to sleep following a long day, someone entered with a key card. He seemed just as surprised as we were. Fortunately, our dog was there and made it clear he didn’t welcome a stranger waking us up. I called the front desk immediately, but it turned out calls were forwarded to a service, so I couldn’t reach anyone there. At checkout, I told the nice woman at the desk. She said it was very strange and that she’d tell the manager. I keep thinking about what might have happened if my wife had been alone without me or the dog. If you stay, use the door’s chain lock at night and don’t leave valuables in the room when you go out. At the time I wrote this, nobody had explained why it happened.

We picked this place on a whim during a road trip because dogs were allowed, then added an extra night since we liked the town. Staff were great, the room was clean, and the rate was reasonable, especially since booking with the hotel cost less than the online sites. We didn’t notice the usual annoying hotel noise, and we’d stay again. I gave it four stars because it’s dated and a bit worn, though that’s in keeping with the name, “Rustic.” 😁
