We spent a weekend in the Pocket City Penthouse, two couples sharing the place. That Mississippi view is AMAZING, and downtown McGregor was an easy walk away. Inside, it was clean, cozy, and charming, with decor that suited the home's era. We also enjoyed some of the books and the history about McGregor. The porch worked perfectly for coffee and breakfast in the morning, then cocktails at night. Till next time, take care. Roses & Schultz's
We picked McGregor for a couples' weekend to catch the Fall colors. We were a little early for them this year, but still had a wonderful time checking out the state parks, shops, and restaurants nearby. Our suite at AmericanHouse 1854 was beautifully decorated and offered more than we expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the hosts were amazing. Thanks so much!
After a day at the local parks, the downtown McGregor location was perfect. The kitchen had everything, though we ate out for every meal. We loved unwinding on the comfortable leather sofa in front of the television, and there were playing cards to enjoy, too. The rooms were spotless, with lovely decor and quaint antiques. The welcome basket was a nice touch, and there were plenty of towels, linens, blankets, and soaps to choose from. Host SARA was wonderful and respectful, sharing local tips, weekend events, and great restaurant and Café recommendations. Highly recommend.
The view from the third floor is breathtaking, one in a million. American house has plenty of historic charm, and McGregor turned out to be a welcoming, charming, beautiful town. We weren't sure what to expect before arriving, but Sara made the stay even better by keeping us up to date on local events and suggesting things to do and see. She was an amazing host. I'd definitely recommend American house.
There’s a lot of history in the building and around the area, including Mark Twain having stayed here. It’s a lovely little River Town, and the Mississippi still has all its charm. We had a very clean place, and the hosts were easy to reach. The river view was beautiful, with the marina just across the street. It was also easy to walk down to the shops, or drive to Pikes Peak, Effigy Mounds, and Yellow River Forest. We’d happily stay again.
