Hampton Inn McHenry

For my daughter's birthday, we got two adjoining rooms so she could spend time with friends while mom had some privacy. She loves it there. The pool is small, but adequate.

Buyer beware. The room was quiet and away from the elevator, but it had a connecting door. About half an hour after we arrived, the family next door got very noisy. They seemed to have little kids, and kids are loud. Mine were too. I called the front desk to explain the problem and ask what could be done. The woman said she'd come up, but that was all. No follow-up and no offer to move us. I would've moved, since we didn't have children with us and it would have been easier. Nothing happened. The noise settled once the kids went to bed, then started up again at sunrise. When we checked out, I asked how many guests they'd served the day before, since there seemed to be plenty of room. They apologized and said I could have moved if I'd said something. I did call, and nobody offered that option. Why put a family with kids in an adjoining room next to other guests when the hotel had space? The hotel itself is fine for a Hampton Inn, but I'll never stay at this low end hotel again. LG

The room was good, but the complimentary breakfast was less than exceptional. The website said the hot tub was available, yet neither the pool nor hot tub was open when we arrived. There is no longer a hot tub.

Bob, the front desk manager, made our stay so much more enjoyable. He was welcoming, friendly, and joked around with us. We were in town for my uncle's memorial service, and we'll definitely come back to this hotel if we're ever in McHenry again. The rest of the hotel was good too, with a clean, warmer pool, an okay continental breakfast, and a nice, roomy lobby. Thanks, Bob. Keep being so awesome and friendly!
