Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge

We drove two hours for a weekend fishing trip after booking online, and only found out the next morning that the lake was closed and drained. There was no warning on the reservation site, even though that's where people need to see it before booking. The notice was on Facebook, but I don't check Facebook when making reservations. We were new to Georgia and expected to see the lake as pictured on the website. Afterward, they emailed asking for a favorable Google or Facebook review and said to call if expectations weren't met. I called, and they apologized, which I appreciated, but that didn't fix the missing warning. People should be told at booking that the lake has no water.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. There's a lot here, including a restaurant, golf course, fishing and boating lake, pool, conference center, and a camping area. The restaurant food is usually pretty good. I don't golf, so I can't comment on the course, but the golf shop looks new and the grounds seem well kept. It seems like a nice spot for a few days away. Helena-McRea is the closest town. It's small, with the usual limited options for entertainment, groceries, and restaurants.

We had a broken down RV and needed somewhere to stay while its transmission was being repaired. The very friendly people at the park kindly let us tow it into the campground for a few nights, so we didn't have to camp in a strip mall parking lot. The park is beautiful too.

The cabin was beautifully decorated and designed, with a great lake view, and we had a really nice stay. It was modern and clean, with WiFi, a large TV, air conditioning and fans, a screened porch with plenty of seating, linens and towels, a full-size fridge, dishwasher, detergent, and a sponge. We couldn't have asked for better, and it exceeded our expectations. The ice maker arm was stuck, and there were no steak knives, but those were the only issues. We were four friends on a golf trip. We played Brazell’s in Reidsville on Friday, stayed at Little Ocmulgee, played LO on Saturday, then checked out and drove to Lake Blackshear/Veterans for our third round on Sunday. Great time, and we'll be back again and again. Thank you.
