Hampton Inn Melbourne-Viera

We waited more than 30 minutes for the front desk girl to appear, and the key cards wouldn’t work. I had to go back to the desk four times before someone came to let us into the room. The hallway had cockroaches, and the whole hotel smelled bad. Once inside, we found a dirty room. The beds smelled used, as though they’d been made up without changing the sheets. Unacceptable and very disappointing. I don’t recommend this hotel.

We come to this area every year for a conference, but we’ll stay somewhere else from now on. We usually choose Hampton Inn or Hilton properties and are diamond members, so this was a horrible experience. Our reservation was for four days, and the awful smell near our floor’s elevator was there each day. There were bleach marks all along the carpet on the way to the room. The room was hot, humid, and musty. The bathroom was disgusting, with urine on the floor and the side of the toilet. The bathtub floor had paint or some kind of stains all over it. We reported it, and the front desk said the manager would handle it in the morning. The manager said it would be cleaned while we were out, but it wasn’t. That evening we returned with photos, and the employee seemed annoyed, rolled her eyes, and said she’d leave a note for the manager. The next morning the manager said she couldn’t do anything and had to send it to “upper management,” though she offered a “Coke or water.” The room was finally cleaned on the third day we were out. I cleaned it myself in the meantime. I highly recommend others stay elsewhere too.

The room issues mean I won’t stay at this property again. In Room #516, the window treatments were completely broken, a bucket-sized “Damprid” container was overflowing from the TV console onto the wet carpet, and there were no coffee cups. I also found visible trash and business cards from a previous guest on the floor. The outlets in the nightstand and desk were so loose and worn they wouldn’t hold a plug. The pillows looked new but had cheap institutional foam cores that made it impossible to sleep well. The tub had no drain stopper, and the recessed bathroom light was either burned out or broken. I’m a repeat business guest here a couple times a year and spend 100+ nights annually across Hilton brands with Diamond status. The staff I dealt with were friendly and professional, and breakfast was good. At a midweek, off-season rate of $115 plus tax, around $90.00 would make more sense for such a dumpy room. Any hotel response telling me to contact Hilton directly would be a total copout.

Breakfast was great, as usual. My only trouble was the room key, which quit working. It took four tries with the front desk attendant to sort it out, and she eventually had to reset the door lock with some unusual device. That was a first for me.
