The bed really was as comfortable as it looked in the pictures, and I was happy with my stay. I came to Memphis for business and booked through Hotels.com because of the price, the 8.4 star rating, and those room photos. I was on the fifth floor, which was nice and quiet, with no barking dogs or kids running in the hall. There’s security 24/7, and I liked being able to pay another $20 to stay until 1pm when checkout is at 11am. Sometimes you don’t feel like getting up at 9 or 10 just to pack and leave. Other hotels should offer that too. It was my first time using a virtual key, and I liked the idea. A couple things weren’t deal breakers: my room had no microwave, though I don’t know whether that’s true of all rooms. The tub drained slowly and backed up as I showered, leaving a little puddle to stand in. Maybe the jet spray was too strong for the drain. I also couldn’t tell from the wall control whether the heat or AC was on. It only showed fan, up and down arrows, and mode buttons. After fiddling with it, I figured out how to get more heat or AC. I was rushing to a business meeting, so I didn’t go down to use the amenities. I bought food while I was out, but noticed a nice little store as I walked by. It looked huge downstairs, and next time I’ll take a look around. When I’m back in Memphis, I’ll definitely book another room here.

The lobby looks nice, but it would’ve been good if the rooms looked that way too. Staff were friendly, and we got our keys right on time at the 4 pm check-in, just mentioning that so people know. The rooms weren’t clean: there was hair in the bathroom, the floor hadn’t been vacuumed, and the bathtub tap was running. For the quality, it’s too expensive.

The only hiccup was getting extra towels. I texted after being told someone would bring them, waited an hour, then went downstairs; they arrived about 30 minutes after that. I didn’t make a fuss because things happen, but room service could be quicker. The rest of my stay was great. The room was spotless, quiet, and the air conditioning worked amazingly. The clerks were respectful and helpful, even suggesting restaurants for my first visit to Memphis. After a terrible Airbnb stay, this place felt like a huge relief. There were two elevators, too, so you had a backup if one was busy.

The hotel looked lovely and had a great smell throughout our trip. But housekeeping never came to clean our room, even after I requested it. There wasn’t a microwave in the room, and only one of the three elevators was working. That elevator needed maintenance while I was there.

The lobby looked presentable, but the stay was a mess. Our first room, which cost an extra $20 for early check-in, smelled bad and had food marks on the couch and stains on the carpet. The next room had stained carpet too and smelled so awful housekeeping had to bring air freshener. We had to ask for clean towels and toilet paper. The housekeeping staff were sweet, though communication was difficult because they didn’t understand much English, so have a translation app ready. Bring your own snacks and water as well, since their bottles cost $4. On checkout day there was no hot water on floors 3 through 7, and we were told to shower on the eighth floor. Before booking, check whether the elevators, pool, restaurant, and hot water are working. The hotel is contactless, with no person at the front desk and all communication by text, which may be tough if you’re not comfortable with technology. The website said cancellation was allowed up to a certain date, but that wasn’t true. I relied on the reviews and was disappointed. If I’d been able to get the refund I was promised, I wouldn’t have had this experience. I’m not happy.
