Stay Alfred on Madison Avenue

The apartment was roomy and had everything we needed. I specifically needed two bedrooms, and the price was a great deal compared with nearby hotels, so I’d book Stay Alfred again. Parking was handy across the street. A friendly man at the Front Desk walked us to the room and showed us how the electronic keys worked for both the outside door and elevator.

We were visiting from Arkansas with my siblings, and the place felt quiet and homey. The beds were comfortable, the apartment was clean and fresh-smelling, and arrival and checkout were simple. We liked being on Madison Avenue in Memphis, close enough to walk to most of our plans. From the apartment we could see the bridge over the Mississippi lit up at night. Metro 67 was a few blocks from our excursions, and the building felt safe and well cared for. I was glad we chose it over a hotel, even one with free breakfast, and would recommend it. There were plenty of friendly people around, including the residents and housecleaning staff. The parking garage across the street was convenient, and paying was easy. A few things could be better: we could have used more than one living room chair for four people, the couch was worn and uncomfortable, and the TV remotes were confusing enough that we had to reset one. Dish soap and dishwasher detergent would have been useful too, though that was minor.

The apartment was spacious and clean, and having laundry access was a plus. There was usually someone working in the lobby. Downtown Memphis has a lot of homeless people, though, and that made me uncomfortable walking alone at night.

The location and apartment were great, and the garage across the street was easy to use, reasonably priced, and let us unload the car conveniently. You can reserve and pay for a spot ahead of time. Since this isn’t a hotel with regular maid service, some upkeep had been missed. There was mold around every window sill and along the shower edges, the floors were dirty, and several bulbs were out. We called because we were staying several days; they sent someone to replace some bulbs and Swiffer the floor, and responded well. If you’re mostly out seeing the city, those issues may be easier to overlook.
