Marriott Memphis East

Breakfast was okay, but something was always missing, eggs one day, sausages another. The bathroom had stains that looked like damp or mold, and from my room I could clearly hear water running through the pipes whenever someone showered upstairs. The windows weren’t well sealed either, so road noise came through. The elevator from the third floor to the pool wasn’t working, and I also saw another elevator break down, with someone having to be dragged out. The elevators were slow in general. The gym was small, and the internet often failed to connect. There’s no open free Wi-Fi network. You can get free access by signing up for a membership and giving your details, but many hotels just have an open network. The hotel feels old and needs updating, and I don’t think the room was worth the price.

The room was in good shape, and the staff were friendly. The location is nice, though the entrance can be tricky to find. We also had trouble ordering from the hotel restaurant since they were out of nearly everything I wanted.

Terrance and Destiny made breakfast the best part of my stay at the Marriott Memphis East. They were very attentive, and the food was good. As a Marriott Titanium Lifetime member of the Convoy program, I stay in plenty of hotels, and I’d gladly recommend this one. A few things would bring my four-star rating up to five next time: provide more than two bath towels for two guests staying three days or longer, have housekeeping replenish shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel each day, and make getting back to the hotel from Poplar easier. There’s just about everything you need when leaving the hotel, but returning was a challenge a few times.

The check-in process was easy, and my room was very nice, with fresh bedding and good cleanliness. This is an older property, but it’s well maintained. I wasn’t happy about paying for parking, and the front desk could use more staff, since some guests had to wait longer than usual.
