Knights Inn - Mesa, AZ

We didn’t get our money back, and we felt unsafe both staying there and leaving our car in the lot. The room wasn’t smoke free at all and nothing seemed clean. There was a huge stain on the bed, the floor felt as if it might give way, and we could hear everything through the walls. The lights flickered for about 30 seconds before staying on. I’m pretty sure we saw a drug deal, too. Worst place I’ve ever stayed.

We booked a queen bed in a non-smoking room and got a double bed with cigarette burns all over the sheets and blankets. There was no hot water at any point, and the staff didn’t fix anything or take out the trash during our stay. Garbage was spilling out of the can right outside our door, so we had to step over it. We asked for batteries for the remote when we arrived, but they never came, and we had to buy our own. The place was dirty and run-down. Absolutely horrible, I wouldn’t recommend this hole in the wall to anyone. I took several photos and will try to add them to my review.

We felt so unsafe that we put the mini fridge in front of the door because the lock was broken. After we went out, we came back to find the door open and the lights on. Someone had been in our room and left it that way. Luckily, we took all our belongings with us. The bathroom had no hot water, the light flickered, and we saw cockroaches while watching TV. The sheets were torn and stained, the fridge didn’t work, and most of the outlets were worn out. The room and bathroom walls looked stained and awful. The woman at check-in let us choose a room and gave us keys to look at three, but two were occupied. Hated it. If zero stars were possible, that’s what we’d give it. We’ll never come back.

We checked in Friday 3/25 for a pet-friendly room after having no other last-minute option. Rosa was kind and cleaned the dirty room herself. The sheets and shower were dirty, the window lock was broken, the TV didn’t work, the room key failed, and the room was unswept. She said leaving early would be fine, so we gave it a chance. Big mistake. By 3/26 we were uncomfortable and wanted to check out. Around 8 a.m. I told the blonde woman in the office we wouldn’t stay Sunday, giving 24 hours’ notice. She said we needed that notice, then wrote down my request and said someone would contact me after I asked for Rosa or the manager, Jose. No one followed up. We also needed towels, but another woman said nothing could be done until 10 a.m. We eventually got them. Since we couldn’t leave without being charged for the night, we decided at least not to stay Sunday. At checkout on 3/27, manager Frida said we’d still be charged for the third night because the system showed three nights. I reminded her about the notice, but she said there was no note on the account. Then she saw our pets and said they’d charge an extra penalty, even though we’d booked a pet-friendly room and paid for it. She said that didn’t matter. We regret staying at all. This place will take your money and try to take more afterward. Avoid it like the plague.
