Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Mesquite

Loved having a balcony, and the room itself was spacious and modern. The bed was firm but comfortable. Street noise died down around 10 pm, so we left the door open for some fresh air. We did have to switch rooms because the TV in the first one didn’t work, and maintenance wasn’t available to help. Also, why was the kids’ toilet so low? 😳

The location was convenient, and we liked the pool and hot tub. The rest of the stay was rough: our room still had moldy pizza in the ice bucket and food left in the fridge when we checked in, and the A/C leaked all over the carpet. The beds were listed as queens but were only full size. On the one day room service was supposed to come, the room wasn’t serviced. When we asked for fresh towels, we were told the hotel had run out of clean ones.

I spent all my Hilton points and paid another $200 for two nights because I wanted to relax by the pool in warm, 80° weather. That was the main reason I booked, and the pool area was a huge letdown. Construction was going on, there was no relaxing atmosphere, and the outdoor space looked nothing like the online photos. The hot tub was lukewarm, more like bathwater than a properly kept spa. Hall doors kept slamming, too, making it hard to unwind anywhere. Much of the property was clean and comfortable, and the rooms were what I’d expect from a Hampton Inn. If the pool isn’t a priority, the hotel itself is fine. But I was expecting a pleasant, resort-style outdoor area and didn’t get it.

The fitness center was in good shape and breakfast was great, but we left disappointed. We arrived ten minutes before check-in and were told we’d have to wait another half hour. They let us use the pool area, which was messy with empty pizza boxes, leaves, and wrappers. The hot tub water was green and dirty. When we asked for it to be cleaned, we were told there was no maintenance staff available and that it had just been used a lot that weekend. This was Saturday afternoon. Our room wasn’t ready until an hour and a half after check-in. Once we got in, the shower floor was dirty and the room hadn’t been vacuumed thoroughly.
